The Pole House by F2 Architecture is one of Australias most iconic homes, and is available for rent! The spectacular beach front house is suspended 40 meters above Fairhaven Beach and offers unparalleled panoramic views of the beautiful coastline. The house was recently renovated and now features floor-to-ceiling retracting glass walls giving guests a sense of walking on air. The Floating House is a spectacular project designed by architect Dymitr Malcew for French developer H2ORIZON – a company that specializes in floating structures. It was created for people who appreciate freedom and nature at their doorstep, the mobile home is constructed on a floating platform that can be easily moved to different locations. The House offers two luxurious bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room and a kitchen, all with direct access to the surrounding terrace, enabling the outside world to blend in.

If you live in a hectic city, at weekends you might feel like escaping to a place completely disconnected from technology, this might inspire you. The Shack is a weekend retreat designed by Broadhurst Architects for a family from the suburbs of Washington D.C., it is located on the southern slope of South Fork Mountain, near Upper Tract, West Virginia. The little rural structure is a cross between tent camping, and weekend cottage, it has no electricity (Oil lamps provide light), and features a rain collecting system that provides water for the outdoor shower. Heat is provided by a small wood stove that also heats water for the kitchen sink. The front facing façade of the building features a glass garage door that opens up to a cantilevered wood deck providing a breathtaking view of the beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

The Mighty Mouse Apartment, designed by Australian architect Nicholas Gurney, is an interesting solution to the problem of limited space. The tiny apartment is located in  Sydney’s suburb Woolloomooloo and has a studio area of only 27 square meters, composed of white sliding panels that allow access to different living areas while concealing others. The color palette of black, yellow and red is inspired by the tiny fictional Mighty Mouse, a character with a punch well above its size.

Every Surf Sauna is built to your specifications in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and is fully customizable, you can choose the size(between 2 and 8 people), even outfit it for offroad conditions. Once owned by legendary Hollywood actor Steve McQueen, the Pioneer Moon Ranch is an outdoorsman’s mecca, and it’s for sale! The Great Escape star´s former home is as epic as you would imagine, spread over 500 acres of land in Hailey, Idaho, the property sits at the foot of the Pioneer Mountains and is defined by the Big Wood River that flows the length of the property for a mile and a half. One for the DIY lovers. The Living Cube is a homemade project by Till Konneker. After moving into a small apartment studio without storage room, Till decided to build a minimalist cube design with a shelf for his vinyl collection, his TV, clothes and shoes.  It also features a guest bed on the top, and, open up the cube to find plenty of storage space. This amazing retreat belongs to French designer Alexandre de Betak, it is nestled in a small coastal village in the Tramuntana region of Majorca - Spain. With wonderful views on Mediterranean Sea the laid back, rustic Cave House features eco-friendly furnishings, uniquely curvaceous white plaster walls and amazing wood and stone details.. But the stand out feature has to be the cave-style cinema room with throw-pillows, perfect for lounging after a day in the hot Spanish sun. via

We have featured some amazing retreats over the last couple of years, but none as special as this wooden cabin in Yulan, NY. It is owned by fashion stylist and interior designer Scott Newkirk, he wanted a place to escape in the weekends from the hectic city life. A place completely disconnected from technology, with no electricity or running water, no TV or computer. A place Scott can slow down and enjoy what nature has to offer before heading back to his demanding profession. via

This 1917 rustic country getaway in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, was brought back to life by renowned New York interior designer Thom Filicia, it features a beautiful waterfront boathouse decorated with vintage furniture but equipped with the latest technology including a touch pad for controlling music from dockside speakers. via

For those not familiar with the name of Stefan Sagmeister, he is a famous New York-based graphic designer and typographer. Amongst his work are album covers for Lou Reed, OK Go, The Rolling Stones, David Byrne, Aerosmith and Pat Metheny. His own design firm - Sagmeister & Walsh Inc. in New York has recently moved into this gorgeous minimalist studio. More pics after the jump.

We have done some features on SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) in the past, the South African Architecture studio always impresses us with their mind blowing minimalist projects. Another example of their work is this home located in the affluent suburb of Bantry Bay, in Cape Town, South Africa. The house is on a cliff-top with with all rooms facing the spectacular sea view, but the stand out feature of the home has to be the amazing infinity pool and sunken lounge. via

Port-a-Bach is an innovative mobile holiday home by Atelierworkshop Architects from New Zealand. The environmentally friendly recycled container comfortably sleeps two adults and two children,  and has the versatility of creating rooms within the large open living space : includes bunk beds, double bed room, dressing room, kitchen and bathroom. The Port-a-Bach is not yet in production, they are looking for commercial partners in order to mass produce it. via

This amazing and unique project is located in London, UK. The former 99 foot tall Water Tower was built in 1877 and was recently converted into a spectacular luxury home. It now features four bedrooms, a lift, a gym, a rooftop terrace, a modern open living space nicknamed "the cube", and 360 degrees views across the city. via

Fancy living in a tree? Tree Tents is a concept by British design group Luminair, they believe forests should be used for more than just harvesting timber. After three years of research the "Tree Tents" were born, they are suspended capsules that give you comfortable and low impact retreats up in the canopie. The tents are lightweight enable minimal impact on the trees, feature a fabric shell made from waterproofed cotton canvas and include two side benches which can fold to become single beds. via

This original weekend retreat is located in the woods just outside of Tokyo in Japan. The dreamy retreat was designed by Shin Ohori of General Design Co, It features two main cabins that include a kitchen, bathroom and living area. Two yellow dome tents are used as year-round bedrooms. source
