This amazing retreat belongs to French designer Alexandre de Betak, it
is nestled in a small coastal village in the Tramuntana region of
Majorca - Spain. With wonderful views on Mediterranean Sea the laid
back, rustic Cave House features eco-friendly furnishings, uniquely
curvaceous white plaster walls and amazing wood and stone details.. But

We have featured some amazing retreats over the last couple of years, but none as special as this wooden cabin in Yulan, NY. It is owned by fashion stylist and interior designer Scott Newkirk, he wanted a place to escape in the weekends from the hectic city life. A place completely disconnected from technology, with no electricity or running water, no TV or computer. For those not familiar with the name of Stefan Sagmeister, he is a famous New York-based graphic designer and typographer. Amongst his work are album covers for Lou Reed, OK Go, The Rolling Stones, David Byrne, Aerosmith and Pat Metheny. We have done some features on SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) in the past, the South African Architecture studio always impresses us with their mind blowing minimalist projects. Another example of their work is this home located in the affluent suburb of Bantry Bay, in Cape Town, South Africa. Port-a-Bach is an innovative mobile holiday home by Atelierworkshop Architects from New Zealand. The environmentally friendly recycled container comfortably sleeps two adults and two children, and has the versatility of creating rooms within the large open living space : includes bunk beds, double bed room, dressing room, kitchen and bathroom. The Port-a-Bach is not yet in production, they are looking for commercial partners in order to mass produce it. via |

This amazing and unique project is located in London, UK. The former 99 foot tall Water Tower was built in 1877 and was recently converted into a spectacular luxury home. Fancy living in a tree? Tree Tents is a concept by British design group Luminair, they believe forests should be used for more than just harvesting timber. After three years of research the "Tree Tents" were born, they are suspended capsules that give you comfortable and low impact retreats up in the canopie. The tents are lightweight enable minimal impact on the trees, feature a fabric shell made from waterproofed cotton canvas and include two side benches which can fold to become single beds. via |

Designed by Portuguese architect Frederico Valsassina, this spectacular contemporary house is located in the private condominium of Quinta Patino, in Estoril, Portugal. The 7,535 square foot home features a 2-story layout with living spaces within a modular arrangement of several open air compartments cut out of the simple rectangular design. These openings give strategic views of the beautiful and abundant vegetation. |

Amsterdam-based BaksvanWengerden Architecten were commissioned to renovate and enlarge a single-family house in the Netherlands. The SH House dates back to 1932, the owners wanted to renovate the original interior that was very dark and enclosed. The architects removed the internal partitions and created an open floor plan which extends towards the garden. Beautiful fusion of classic with contemporary. |

Keret House was designed by Jakub Szczesny of Warsaw-based studio Centrala, it is the world´s narrowest house! Measuring only 3.02 feet at its narrowest point and 4.99 feet at its widest point, the house is very compact but has everything that a house needs, a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and work desk. watch the video |

We recently featured a beautiful single level home and work studio in Spanish island Formentera Designed by Spanish architect Marià Castelló Martínez. This time around we feature another of her architecture masterpieces also in Formentera. The contemporary property nemed Can Manuel d’en Corda, features beautiful interior woodwork, exposed original stone walls, exposed original wooden beams, and fully utilizes the outside space creating inviting courtyards to relax. |
