Volvo P1800ES Restomod
The Volvo P1800ES has always stood apart, a rare mix of sports car and design icon that still feels relevant decades later. Now, Dutch studio Autoforma, in collaboration with Volvo Lotte, is giving the classic shooting brake a carefully considered second life. If you are into vintage machines with a modern edge, this sits right alongside the kind of builds we regularly feature in our automotive section.
Rather than a one size fits all approach, the program offers three distinct build directions, ranging from period correct restorations to more performance driven interpretations. At the top end, the transformation goes well beyond aesthetics. A modern turbocharged Volvo T5 five cylinder engine replaces the original powertrain, paired with an updated transmission, sharper steering, improved braking, and revised chassis geometry for a far more engaging drive.
Visually, the updates are subtle but effective. Carbon fiber wheel arch extensions widen the stance, LED lighting modernizes the look, and custom forged wheels complete the overall presence without losing the car’s original character. It is a balance that respects the past while quietly pushing things forward.
Inside, the cabin retains its original architecture but receives a full material upgrade. Leather, Alcantara, and Scandinavian wool bring a more refined feel, while improved ergonomics and discreet modern integrations enhance usability without disrupting the clean vintage aesthetic.
