1955 Porsche 550 Spyder
The 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder is a standout example of mid-century motorsport excellence, and RM Sotheby’s offers a rare chance to own one of only 90 ever built. This meticulously restored model, chassis 0038, exemplifies Porsche's pioneering spirit in racing.
The 550 Spyder, Porsche's first race-specific car, shone in prestigious events such as the Targa Florio and Le Mans, known for its agility and performance. Chassis 0038 was originally finished in white with burgundy accents and first owned by Fernando Mascarenhas in Portugal, who raced it to early success. After being sold to Cypriano Flores, the car was later restored by Porsche and the original coachbuilder Wendler, with updates including a silver paint job and a black leather interior.
Retaining its original engine, gearbox, and chassis, this Spyder has been preserved in excellent condition. It has not been driven since its restoration, and the engine has remained untouched since 2010, recommending a full service before use.
This 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, with its rich racing heritage and impeccable restoration, is a prized collector's item and a testament to Porsche's storied legacy.
