1957 Ferrari 500 TRC
Few cars capture the spirit of 1950s motorsport quite like the 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC. As the final four-cylinder sports racer ever built by Ferrari, the TRC marked the end of an era—and the pinnacle of a legacy that began with the Lampredi-designed Tipo 500 engine that powered Alberto Ascari to Ferrari's first F1 title.
The TRC, short for Testa Rossa C, was built in response to new FIA regulations, with its "C" suffix denoting compliance. It featured elegant Scaglietti bodywork, a wider cockpit, and advanced engineering that included a revised 2.0L engine and upgraded suspension. Weighing just 680 kg and producing 180 hp, it delivered thrilling performance with unmistakable Ferrari style.
Chassis #0658 MDTR, offered by RM Sotheby's, is the first 500 TRC ever built. Delivered new to the U.S. and campaigned at the 1957 12 Hours of Sebring, it went on to enjoy success in SCCA racing and later participated in 21 editions of the Mille Miglia Storica. Certified by Ferrari Classiche and meticulously restored, it retains its original chassis, body, engine, and rear axle.
With only 17 examples produced, the 500 TRC is among the rarest and most desirable Ferraris ever made. Its stunning proportions, legendary provenance, and eligibility for world-class events make this car a crown jewel for collectors, expected to command over $7 million at auction.
