The CRKT Provoke X is the Wildest EDC Tool of the Year

CRKT takes its signature kinematic design and pushes it into new territory with the Provoke X Axe. What started as a folding karambit evolves here into something far less expected, a compact axe that deploys in one fluid motion.

The standout feature is the mechanism. With a quick flick, the axe head swings into place, locking solidly with CRKT’s Deadbolt system. It feels more like operating a piece of engineered hardware than a typical outdoor tool.
 
If you want something more traditional in a compact format, the Hyzer Mini Titanium Hatchet is worth a look.


Despite its size, it is built for real use. The SUJ2 steel blade with a titanium nitride coating adds durability and corrosion resistance, while the spiked back increases versatility beyond simple chopping.

It is not trying to replace a full size axe. Instead, it fits into that in between space, small enough to carry, capable enough for quick tasks around camp or on the trail.
