The Land Rover Freelander Is Back as a Bold New Electric SUV

The Freelander returns, but not in the way you remember. What was once a Land Rover model is now being reborn as a standalone electric SUV brand, developed through a partnership between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery.

This new direction shifts the Freelander into a more modern space, built around electrification, digital tech, and global ambitions. The first model is expected to be a mid to full size SUV with a rugged, boxy design that clearly nods to the original, while moving toward a more contemporary and tech driven identity.

- If you are into modern electric off roaders, the Rivian R1S Electric SUV is worth a look.

Under the surface, the platform is built to support multiple powertrains, including fully electric and hybrid setups, with an advanced 800V architecture designed for performance and fast charging.

Inside, the focus shifts heavily toward technology. Early previews point to large digital displays, connected systems, and a more modern, minimalist cabin layout, positioning it closer to the new wave of tech focused SUVs than traditional off roaders.

- For something more design driven, the Polestar 3 Electric SUV offers a cleaner take on the segment.

What makes this interesting is the positioning. Freelander will sit outside the traditional Land Rover lineup, targeting a different segment with a balance of off road character, everyday usability, and accessible pricing.

This is not just a revival. It is a reset. The Freelander name moves from heritage SUV to a new generation of electrified adventure vehicles, built for a different kind of driver. Watch the video below...
