Norrona Canvas Camp

Norrona Canvas Camp is one of those rare places that feels both carefully considered and completely untamed. Tucked deep into the Telemark highlands, this off grid mountain bike camp blends rugged trail access with a level of comfort that never feels forced. In our view, it sets a new benchmark for what adventure focused travel can look like.

Run by Norrona, Canvas Camp is built around riding first. Trails start right outside your yurt, with terrain that works for beginners looking to learn and experienced riders chasing long technical loops. Guided rides focus on skill progression and safety, not ego, which makes the experience welcoming rather than intimidating. That balance alone already puts Canvas in a different category.

The camp itself feels closer to a safari lodge than a traditional mountain hotel. Elevated canvas yurts sit lightly on the landscape, connected by boardwalks and small bridges. There is no road access, no unnecessary infrastructure, and no visual clutter. Everything feels intentional and reversible, which matters in a place this quiet.

After a day on the trails, the pace slows in the best way. Wood fired saunas, outdoor soaking tubs, and communal bonfires invite real downtime. Meals are cooked over open flames using simple techniques and local ingredients, and they consistently punch above expectations. This is not luxury for show, it is comfort earned through restraint.

In our opinion, Norrona Canvas Camp succeeds because it understands its audience. It is not trying to impress everyone. It is built for people who value time outside, good riding, good food, and the kind of silence you rarely find anymore.

Inspired by traditional shepherd shelters, the architecture keeps a strong link to the region while introducing a clean, modern approach. Built in wood and ...
