Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility for Hodinkee
The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility for Hodinkee brings a useful detail from vintage military watches back into focus: a central hand for elapsed minutes. Sharing the main dial with the chronograph seconds hand, it makes timed intervals easier to read at a glance. This second collaboration draws on the layout of the original Porsche Design Military chronographs.
Inside is the new automatic WERK 01.340, developed over four years to recreate the functionality associated with the Lemania 5100. Its chronograph minute hand advances in distinct jumps, while a counter at six tracks elapsed hours. A 24-hour indicator distinguishes morning from evening, and the movement adds COSC certification, a 60-hour power reserve, and an English/German day display alongside the date.
The 40.8mm titanium case has an uncoated, bead-blasted finish. Red chronograph accents stand out against the black dial, while a 12-hour outer scale replaces the usual tachymeter. Water resistance is rated to 100 meters, and an engraved solid caseback carries the individual edition number.
Limited to 350 examples worldwide, the watch costs $9,650 before tax. Each includes a matching titanium bracelet and a leather band strap made from Porsche vehicle leather, with a quick-change system for switching between them. The defining feature remains the display: a mechanical update that gives elapsed minutes more room on the dial.
