stuff we drool about

Shackleton Fuchs Down Jacket

When winter turns genuinely hostile, the Shackleton Fuchs Down Jacket feels like the right kind of overkill. This is not a fashion first puffer pretending to be technical. It is a serious insulation piece built for deep cold, refined enough to work just as well off the mountain as it does above the tree line.

Tested down to minus 20 degrees in the Rockies and the Alps, the Fuchs is engineered as a single jacket solution for extreme conditions. Inside, 215 grams of 800 fill power RDS certified goose down are distributed through boxwall baffle construction, eliminating cold spots and locking heat exactly where your body needs it most. In real world terms, it feels warm without feeling bulky, which is no small achievement at this level of protection.

The Pertex Shield outer adds weather resistance without stiffness, while Diamond Fuse ripstop boosts durability where abrasion is unavoidable. Shackleton’s Heat Halo neck baffle is a standout detail, sealing warmth around the collar and preventing heat from escaping when wind chill kicks in. At just 990 grams, it remains impressively packable and comes with a stuff sack for travel.

Thoughtful touches like a helmet compatible adjustable hood, Cohaesive cord locks, Aquaguard zippers, and reinforced insulation zones make it clear this jacket was designed by people who actually use their gear. From our perspective, the Fuchs strikes a rare balance of expedition grade warmth, sharp tailoring, and long term wearability.
