2027 Honda Africa Twin
Honda has given one of the world's most recognizable adventure motorcycles its biggest transformation in a decade. Unveiled at EICMA 2026, the new CRF1150L Africa Twin introduces a more powerful 1,131cc engine, redesigned chassis, advanced electronics, and an expanded three-model lineup. From long-distance touring to demanding off-road riding, the latest generation builds on the Africa Twin's legendary Dakar-inspired heritage while introducing a level of sophistication previously unseen in the collection.
At the heart of the redesign is a larger parallel-twin engine producing 117 horsepower (87.5kW) and 119Nm of torque. Increased displacement, a higher compression ratio, revised intake and exhaust components, and updated gearing deliver stronger acceleration and more relaxed cruising performance. Honda has also redesigned the frame and swingarm, shaving 1.4kg from their combined weight. More importantly, a portion of the fuel tank now sits beneath the seat, lowering the center of gravity to improve balance and maneuverability, particularly at slower speeds and over uneven terrain.
The new Africa Twin arrives in three distinct configurations. The standard CRF1150L offers a balanced combination of touring comfort and off-road capability, with a 21-inch front wheel, electronically adjustable windscreen, and Showa EERA suspension featuring Honda's Skyhook technology. The Adventure Sports is tailored for longer journeys, adding a 19-inch front wheel, a larger 24-liter fuel tank, and more road-oriented comfort. The biggest newcomer is the Enduro Sports, a dedicated off-road version inspired by Honda's CRF450 RALLY, featuring specialized front suspension, aggressive bodywork, and a more focused setup for difficult terrain.
Technology has taken an equally significant step forward. The updated cockpit incorporates digital instrumentation with smartphone connectivity, while six customizable riding modes allow riders to adjust engine response, traction control, ABS, and suspension settings to suit different conditions. The range-topping Adventure Sports DCT can also be equipped with Honda SENSING RIDE, a new radar-based assistance system using front and rear sensors. It introduces adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, forward collision warnings, and emergency braking assistance, bringing sophisticated touring technology to Honda's flagship adventure motorcycle.
The styling has evolved without abandoning the Africa Twin's unmistakable identity. Sharper dual headlights, cleaner bodywork, and more purposeful proportions give the motorcycle a contemporary appearance, while the new Enduro Sports adopts a distinctly rally-inspired design. It's a dramatic progression from the 2016 Honda Africa Twin, which revived the legendary nameplate for a new generation, and a more sophisticated foundation for expedition-ready builds like the Honda x Overland Expo Africa Twin.
The 2027 Honda Africa Twin is more than a routine model update. With a stronger engine, revised weight distribution, specialized off-road and touring variants, and a new generation of rider-assistance technology, Honda has made its flagship adventure motorcycle considerably more versatile. Pricing and market-specific availability have yet to be fully confirmed, but the CRF1150L already looks like one of the most significant adventure motorcycle launches of the year.
