Rivian R2

The Rivian R2 marks an important step for the California based electric vehicle maker as it moves toward a more accessible lineup. Positioned as a midsize electric SUV with strong performance and off road capability, the R2 is designed to bring Rivian’s adventurous DNA to a wider audience while maintaining the brand’s signature blend of technology and rugged design.

The first version arriving on the market is the R2 Performance, starting at $57,990. It features a dual motor all wheel drive system producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb ft of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds. Despite its performance credentials, the R2 still offers an impressive EPA estimated driving range of around 330 miles.

The R2 Performance also includes a number of premium features such as a semi active suspension system, a 975 watt Rivian Premium Audio setup, and 21 inch Liquid Tungsten all season wheels. A limited Launch Package adds additional upgrades including Rivian’s Autonomy Plus advanced driver assistance system for the lifetime of the vehicle, an exclusive Rivian Green anodized key fob, an optional Launch Green paint finish, and a tow package that increases towing capacity to 4,400 pounds.

Later in the lineup, Rivian plans to introduce the R2 Premium trim with a dual motor setup producing 450 horsepower and a 0 to 60 time of about 4.6 seconds, while maintaining the same 330 mile driving range. The most affordable model, the R2 Standard, is expected to arrive in 2027 with a starting price around $45,000. This version will feature a single motor rear wheel drive system delivering between 275 and 345 miles of range depending on configuration.

Across the range, the R2 features a five seat layout, a native NACS charging port for access to Tesla style charging infrastructure, and a practical interior offering up to 90.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Off road capability remains central to the design with 9.6 inches of ground clearance, a 25 degree approach angle, and a 26 degree departure angle.

With deliveries beginning in spring for the Performance model, the Rivian R2 is set to become one of the brand’s most important vehicles yet, combining strong performance, practical range, and everyday usability in a more attainable electric SUV package.
