1983 Porsche 944 Coupe

The 1983 Porsche 944 Coupe has always been one of the most balanced transaxle cars Porsche ever built. Now, thanks to Vagabund, Nine Eleven and Dakar Garage, it has been reimagined for something far less predictable than smooth tarmac. It is now available for grabs at Elferspot.

The 1983 Porsche 944 Coupe Safari takes the classic platform and pushes it into true all terrain territory. Ride height is increased by 40mm, supported by a revised rear axle, new spring plates, axle conversion with custom parts and specific rear shock absorbers. It rides on 205 70 15 off road tires, either Maxxis Trepador or Bridgestone Dueler AT, with a fifth spare mounted on a telephone or cookie cutter style rim.

Visually, it looks the part. Customer wheels are stripped and powder coated in black or gold, rubber mud flaps add protection, and a full rally light setup with four HELLA Rallye 1000 or Comet 500 lamps turns night into day. A custom roof rack and UV resistant Vagabund Safari livery complete the transformation.

What we like most about this 1983 Porsche 944 Coupe build is that it feels purposeful, not gimmicky. It respects the original balance of the 944 while giving it real capability across seasons and surfaces. It is a reminder that classic Porsche ownership does not have to mean perfect roads and careful weekends.
