1971 Toyota Land Cruiser ICON FJ40

A commission for an ICON 4x4 build typically takes around a year, which makes this 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser ICON FJ40 a rare chance to skip the line and drive away in something truly special. ICON does not rush projects, and that patience shows in the depth and finish of this build.

Originally refurbished and modified by ICON 4x4 around 2012, this FJ40 blends classic Land Cruiser proportions with modern performance and usability. Power comes from a 5.3 liter Vortec V8 paired with a five speed manual transmission and a twin stick dual range transfer case. It is a setup that feels honest and mechanical, exactly how an old school off road truck should.

The exterior is finished in a tough black powder coat and fitted with American Racing 17 inch eight hole wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich All Terrain tires. Details like the Warn 9,500 pound front winch, swing away rear carriers for the spare and jerrycan, LED lighting, and half doors reinforce its go anywhere intent without feeling overdone. Fox shocks and Eibach springs handle suspension duties, backed by the ICON Sport Brake Package.

Inside, the cabin is far more refined than the original ever was. Heated front bucket seats and a removable tuck and tumble rear bench are trimmed in black with Chilewich cloth s. Air conditioning, a locking Tuffy center console, drilled aluminum pedals, and the ICON Amp and Bass audio system with an Alpine head unit make it comfortable and usable year round.

With under 5,000 miles showing, this ICON FJ40 represents a finished vision rather than a project, and in our view, that makes it especially compelling.
