1967 Ford Shelby GT500CR Carbon

The 1967 Shelby GT500 is one of the most celebrated American muscle cars ever built, but Classic Recreations has taken the legendary fastback into extraordinary territory. The GT500CR Carbon preserves the unmistakable styling of the original Shelby while replacing its traditional steel bodywork with handcrafted aerospace-grade carbon fiber. Officially licensed by Shelby American and capable of producing up to 900 horsepower, this remarkable restomod combines classic muscle car character with the materials and engineering of a modern supercar.

Every exterior body panel is crafted from lightweight carbon fiber, retaining the Mustang's muscular proportions, aggressive front end, and signature racing stripes. The familiar fastback silhouette remains intact, but the construction is thoroughly modern. A Detroit Speed Aluma-Frame front suspension and QuadraLink rear setup improve handling, while upgraded braking systems and performance wheels give the car the hardware needed to manage its considerable power. The result looks every bit like a vintage Shelby, but promises a substantially different driving experience.

Under the hood sits a Ford Performance Gen IV 5.0-liter Coyote V8, offered in three performance configurations. The entry-level Stage 1 delivers 500 horsepower, while the supercharged Stage 2 increases output to 700 horsepower. At the top of the range, Stage 3 uses a Wegner Automotive-built V8 with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger to produce an extraordinary 900 horsepower. Buyers can choose between a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a Ford Performance 10-speed automatic, making the car as engaging or effortless to drive as they prefer.

Inside, Classic Recreations blends vintage character with modern convenience. Carefully upholstered seating, premium leather finishes, contemporary instrumentation, and upgraded climate control create a more comfortable environment without losing the personality of the original Mustang. Modern audio equipment, smartphone connectivity, and improved sound insulation make it considerably better suited to everyday use than a conventional 1960s muscle car.

Unlike an ordinary tribute build, the GT500CR Carbon carries official Shelby licensing, with each example receiving a unique serial number and inclusion in the Shelby American Worldwide Registry. It joins other ambitious Mustang interpretations, including the Ford Mustang GT500CR and the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback Eleanor Tribute Edition, but takes the concept considerably further through its lightweight construction and extreme performance.

Starting at $549,900, with the 900-horsepower Stage 3 priced at $724,900, the Shelby GT500CR Carbon is firmly aimed at collectors looking for something beyond a traditional restoration. It's an impressive demonstration of how one of America's most iconic muscle cars can evolve without abandoning the design that made it legendary.
