Mori Companion Robot
Most home robots are designed to perform tasks, answer questions, or automate everyday routines. Mori takes a different approach. Created by OKA, the mushroom-inspired companion robot brings gentle movement, ambient lighting, and a surprisingly expressive personality into the home. Rather than trying to replace a personal assistant, this unusual desktop companion is designed to create small moments of calm and curiosity throughout the day.
Standing approximately 30cm tall, Mori looks more like a playful piece of contemporary design than a conventional robot. Its softly illuminated mushroom cap sits above a rounded, fabric-covered body, with expressive eyes that move, blink, and disappear beneath the cap. Small internal motors allow it to tilt, retreat, and respond with subtle gestures, creating the impression of a living character. The soft exterior incorporates wool and touch-sensitive areas, while integrated lighting changes color to reflect different interactions.
Mori's artificial intelligence focuses on awareness and personality rather than productivity. OKA's Attentive Intelligence Engine is designed to learn from its surroundings and interactions, gradually developing individual responses and behaviors. It reacts to touch and voice through movement, light, and expressive gestures, offering a more understated form of interaction than the conversational assistants found in many smart devices. According to OKA, the information Mori senses is processed locally on the device rather than transmitted to the cloud.
The robot also functions as an ambient light and nature-inspired relaxation companion. Resting a hand on its head activates immersive experiences combining atmospheric lighting, natural soundscapes, and guided breathing. Forests, shorelines, and other environments provide a gentle sensory backdrop intended to encourage moments of relaxation. It's an interesting contrast to more functional domestic robots such as the NEO Home Robot, which is being developed to assist with household chores rather than provide an emotional presence.
Developed by OKA founders Wesley Chen and Hua Wang, Mori is the first in a proposed family of five interactive objects exploring the relationship between people, technology, and their surroundings. The limited Founder Edition consists of 500 units. More decorative companion than practical household assistant, Mori offers an intriguing vision of artificial intelligence as something designed to quietly coexist with us, rather than demand our attention.
