The Meze headphones are the creation of award-winning industrial designer, Antonio Meze. The brand currently have three models in their headphone range, the 88 classics (Meze´s top of the range headphones created for audiophiles and music enthusiasts), the 66 classics (the smallest in the range) and these 73 classics (their mid-size model), all beautifully finished with great attention to detail.
As with other member´s of the Meze family, the 73 Classics´s standout feature are the elegant handmade ebony wood enclosures, they are a visual work of art, it really does not get more classic than wood. The combination of the 73mm diameter ear-cup made of ebony wood and the complex inner architecture, reproduce warm natural sound, and amazing clarity in all frequency ranges.
The 73 Classics deliver a respectable sound, clean, warm and natural, they provide a powerful and defined bass plus clear, concise mids and highs. The overall sound is natural and balanced, much due to the hand crafted wooden 73mm cups but also thanks to the custom 50mm Neodymium drivers that are tucked away within them. Inside some leather ear cushions that are really well padded and extremely comfortable, although they have no active noise cancelation, they do block a decent amount of external background chatter.
Meze 73 Classics are individually handcrafted from ebony wood so each pair has a unique wood grain pattern, and a nice fingerprint-resistant satin wood finish (gloss finish is also available). They feature a padded headband for prolonged listening comfort, and a detachable cord, which makes it easy to pack.
Overall the Meze 73 Classics headphones have a distinctive style, each set partially hand-crafted and one of a kind, you´ll be getting some timeless, classic headphones with a combination of high-end technology and style with quality materials and good craftsmanship. They are perfectly portable and with the adjustable padded headband and padded cups, these cans are surprisingly comfortable. Our only requests would be an integrated microphone for phone calls and a carrying case, or at least a pouch, to protect the stunning wood housings.
The headphones tested are the satin wood finish, but if you crave a more sophisticated look, gloss-finished 73s are also available.
