Tardigrade Sleeping System
Most sleeping bags force a compromise. Go warm enough for winter and you're carrying too much weight in summer. Go light and you're cold by October. Graphene X built the Tardigrade Sleeping System to avoid that choice entirely. Two bags, one modular cover, and insulation technology that adapts to conditions on its own.
The system runs on two proprietary technologies. GRAPHINSULATE integrates graphene and aerogel directly into polyester fibres at the material level. Graphene distributes heat evenly and eliminates cold spots. Aerogel, the same material NASA uses for thermal protection in space, traps heat at the molecular level. The combination outperforms traditional down on a weight to warmth basis and unlike down, it maintains its thermal properties when wet. The second technology is W.A.I., Weather Adaptive Insulation. Aerogel filled tubes inside the bag inflate in cold conditions to increase insulation and deflate in warmth to release heat. No batteries, no electronics, no switches. It responds passively to temperature changes at the material level.
The EXTREME bag is rated to a lower limit of minus 20 degrees Celsius and an extreme limit of minus 30, weighing 1.9 kilograms. The LITE handles three season use with a lower limit of 0 degrees Celsius at 1.4 kilograms. The Modular Cover adds 334 grams and buckles into either bag to extend the warmth range further. One system, summer to deep winter.
The details that separate this from a standard bag are worth noting. A lower mesh panel holds an inflatable mattress inside the bag so you sleep on it rather than sliding off it. Arm zippers let you use your hands without opening the bag and losing core heat. A FIDLOCK magnetic collar closes one handed and works with gloves. The footbox gets an extra graphene integrated lining where heat loss is highest. The shell is a waterproof Nylon Ripstop 40D with PFC free DWR and reduced noise construction, a small thing that matters at 3am in a shared tent.
Graphene X has delivered 12 Kickstarter campaigns, raised over $3 million from 30,000 backers across 100 countries, with zero failed deliveries. Early backers can get the full system for $629 against a planned retail of $979. Shipping begins November 2026. watch the video below
