The Orford House
Nestled in the Eastern Townships near Mont-Orford National Park, The Orford House by Thellend Fortin Architects seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. Its design echoes the region's vernacular architecture, featuring a double-sloped roof, wood cladding, and metal accents.
The three-level structure mirrors the forest's composition, rooted in the earth, open to panoramic views, and elevated within the treetops. A striking sculptural staircase, reminiscent of folded paper, diagonally weaves through the home, enhancing its fluid movement.
Thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, the house preserves mature trees and utilizes the terrain for a gentle promenade leading to the garden pavilion and an elevated terrace. With minimal environmental impact and a deep connection to nature, The Oxford House is a serene, architectural retreat that evolves with the seasons, offering an ever-changing spectacle of color and light.
