Suunto Core 2
Suunto has updated one of its best-known outdoor watches with the Core 2, keeping the original’s no-nonsense ABC formula while refining the design and improving readability. The new version gets a cleaner bezel profile, improved fit, larger buttons, and an upgraded strap, while remaining focused on off-grid use rather than smartwatch features.
The biggest change is the high-contrast LED dot-matrix display, which Suunto says is 40% brighter than the original. Gorilla Glass protects the screen, while switchable red and green backlighting makes it easier to read in low-light conditions without compromising night vision.
Core functions include an altimeter, barometer, digital compass, storm alarm, sunrise and sunset times, moon phase, bearing lock, and altitude tracking. The Core 2 is rated to 10 ATM water resistance and has passed seven MIL-STD-810 durability tests covering conditions including heat, humidity, salt fog, dust, low pressure, and freezing rain.
Power comes from a user-replaceable CR3032 battery rated for up to 15 months in basic time mode, keeping the watch useful far from a charger. The Suunto Core 2 All Black is priced at $179.
