Salomon x Pas Normal Studios Aero Blaze 4 GTX

Gravel running occupies an interesting space between road and trail, and Salomon's latest collaboration with Danish cycling label Pas Normal Studios is designed to make that transition effortless. The Aero Blaze 4 Gravel GTX combines the cushioning of a road-running shoe with the grip and weather protection needed for mixed terrain. Wrapped in understated earth tones and subtle technical detailing, it's a distinctive performance sneaker that looks just as good away from the trails.

The shoe's most practical feature is its waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane, designed to keep feet dry during wet-weather runs without turning the upper into a bulky outdoor shell. Engineered mesh provides flexibility and support, while Salomon's internal SensiFIT construction wraps the foot securely from the midsole to the lacing system. The familiar QuickLACE closure allows fast adjustments with a single pull, complemented by a molded OrthoLite sockliner for additional comfort.

Underfoot, Salomon uses its responsive optiFOAM² midsole, combining cushioning with energy return for an efficient ride across changing surfaces. The 35mm heel and 27mm forefoot stack create an 8mm drop, offering a familiar running-shoe geometry rather than an aggressive trail-focused setup. Weighing approximately 227 grams, the Aero Blaze 4 remains relatively light despite its waterproof construction.

The Gravel contaGRIP outsole is what gives the shoe its mixed-terrain personality. Inspired by gravel bike tires, its shallow 2.5mm lugs provide traction on compact dirt, gravel, and paved roads without the bulky feel of deep trail treads. It's designed for runners whose routes might include city streets, park paths, forest tracks, and loose surfaces, although more demanding mountain terrain calls for a dedicated trail-running shoe.

Pas Normal Studios brings its signature restrained aesthetic to the collaboration, with muted colors, contrasting details, and a clean silhouette that reflects the brand's cycling heritage. The result offers a more accessible, everyday-focused alternative to the Salomon GRVL Concept x Pas Normal Studios, which takes a more radical approach to gravel running with carbon-plated performance technology.

Priced at $180, the Salomon x Pas Normal Studios Aero Blaze 4 Gravel GTX strikes an appealing balance between technical performance and everyday versatility. It's a weather-ready running shoe for people who don't want their routes, or their footwear, defined by a single type of terrain.
