Danner MTN45 GTX
The Danner MTN45 GTX blends traditional hiking boot durability with the cushioning and geometry of modern trail footwear. Built for long days on uneven ground, the 5-inch boot uses a nubuck leather upper with a protective rand around the heel and forefoot, giving it a rugged exterior without the bulk of a heavier backpacking boot.
Waterproofing comes from GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, which bonds the membrane directly to the upper for a more flexible, natural feel than a conventional waterproof liner. Underfoot, Danner’s nitrogen-infused EnduroFoam+ midsole provides cushioning, rebound, and shock absorption, while a removable OrthoLite footbed adds another layer of comfort and ventilation.
The outsole is a Danner-exclusive Vibram N45+ design using Megagrip rubber and a wider Traction Lug platform for grip and stability across wet and dry terrain. A TPU rock plate adds protection on rough trails, while the DT-6 last uses an 8mm heel-to-toe offset and a slightly wider forefoot for a more stable stance.
At 40 ounces per pair, the MTN45 GTX sits between a lightweight hiker and a traditional mountain boot. It is also recraftable, allowing the outsole to be replaced through Danner’s repair service, extending the useful life of a boot designed to cover serious mileage. The Smoky Olive version is currently priced at $270.
