ThruDark x Musto Nautikos Range
What happens when a performance clothing brand founded by former Special Forces operators joins forces with one of sailing's most respected names? The result is Nautikos, an uncompromising collection of technical outerwear developed by British brands ThruDark and Musto. Combining military-influenced utility with decades of offshore racing expertise, the range introduces advanced weather protection, reinforced construction, and modular details designed for some of the harshest conditions on the water. Its predominantly black aesthetic gives the collection a distinctly tactical character, but the interesting details go much deeper than appearances.
At the center of the collection are the Nautikos GORE-TEX Jacket and matching trousers, constructed using GORE-TEX PRO for sustained protection against wind and water. For the first time, Musto has incorporated Dyneema reinforcement into its technical clothing, strengthening high-wear areas including the elbows, seat, knees, and hems. The material's exceptional strength-to-weight ratio makes it particularly useful aboard sailing vessels, where repeated contact with abrasive surfaces can quickly damage conventional waterproof fabrics. The jacket features a protective high collar, adjustable hood, and substantial utility pockets, while the bib-style trousers provide additional coverage in severe weather.
One of the collection's smartest features is its modular pocket system. Removable storage compartments can be transferred between compatible garments, allowing sailors to configure their equipment according to the task at hand. D3O knee protection adds impact resistance when working on deck, while photoluminescent reflectors improve visibility in low-light conditions. These details address genuine offshore challenges rather than simply adding technical features for their own sake.
The collection extends beyond its premium outer shell with the Nautikos Trident GORE-TEX mid-layer jacket and trousers, offering a more streamlined approach to protection and layering. A Storm Fleece provides additional warmth beneath the outer shell, while the Nautikos T-Shirt incorporates S.Café fabric technology, using recycled coffee grounds to provide quick-drying performance and UPF 50+ sun protection. Completing the range is a waterproof MPX cap featuring reflective camouflage detailing and a fleece-lined interior.
The collaboration represents a more specialized direction for ThruDark, whose existing products include the Renegade Parka, a technical waterproof jacket designed for demanding outdoor conditions. The ThruDark Pinnacle Hiking Backpack demonstrates a similar attention to durable materials and practical equipment organization. Nautikos takes those principles into a more demanding environment, where reliable protection and accessible storage can be essential.
This is also a collection with a clearly defined audience. With the flagship GORE-TEX jacket priced at £1,500 and matching trousers at £1,200, the complete system represents a considerable investment. Its appeal lies in specialist offshore performance rather than everyday versatility, although the mid-layers and fleece offer more practical options for use on land. Developed with input from professional offshore sailor Will Harris, Nautikos is a compelling example of technical design shaped by actual working conditions rather than fashion trends.
