Shackleton R Series Down Jackets combine 850-fill goose down with windproof recycled ripstop shells, offering three approaches to cold-weather layering. The range includes the hooded Rothera, the collar-only Ronne, and the sleeveless Ross vest. Developed and tested on Antarctic expeditions, the collection brings that experience to packable outerwear suited to winter travel and everyday use.
The Rothera provides the most coverage, pairing its insulation with a three-way adjustable hood and thumbhole storm cuffs. Four external zippered pockets keep essentials accessible, while an internal security pocket holds smaller valuables. Articulated sleeves allow easier movement, and an adjustable hem helps seal out drafts. A supplied stuff sack makes it easier to stow when temperatures rise.
The Ronne keeps the same 850-fill insulation and practical pocket layout in a simpler silhouette, with a microfleece collar and elasticated cuffs. Both jackets use RDS-certified insulation containing 90 percent goose down and 10 percent feather, alongside recycled shell, lining, and pocket materials. A PFC-free water-repellent finish adds protection against light moisture, while the packable construction allows either jacket to work beneath a larger protective shell.
For those who prefer sleeveless layering, the Ross brings the same insulation specification to a vest with elasticated armholes and four external zipped pockets. Multiple colors are available across the collection, with US prices listed at $520 for the Ross, $670 for the Ronne, and $745 for the Rothera. The choice comes down to coverage: core warmth, a conventional jacket, or additional protection around the head and wrists.
