Peak Performance Helium Utility Down Hood Jacket

The Helium Utility Down Hood Jacket takes Peak Performance's most packable down piece and adds the storage most ultralight jackets leave out. Alongside the usual zippered hand pockets sit a zippered chest pocket and a zippered sleeve pocket, the kind of detail that turns a compressible insulator into something you can actually wear through a travel day without a bag on your shoulder.

Underneath the added utility, the Helium formula is unchanged. The shell is a lightweight 42 gsm 20D recycled polyamide ripstop, fully windproof and finished with a DWR treatment that sheds light rain and snow. Insulation is 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down-to-feather ratio, quilted in the brand's signature Helium baffle pattern. Total weight is 0.43 kg, roughly 15 ounces, and the whole jacket compresses into its own left hand pocket.

The fit is relaxed and hip length, cut to layer over a fleece or under a shell. A fixed hood adjusts for both height and width, the hem tightens with a drawcord, and the sleeve cuffs close with cord stoppers rather than elastic, which is a rare concession to adjustability at this weight. The front closes with a YKK Vislon zipper behind a chinguard. Peak Performance embroidery sits at the chest, with the P-logo on the sleeve.

Responsibility credentials are current rather than retrofitted: the down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and fully traceable through Track My Down, and the jacket is made without intentionally added PFAS. At $320, it is priced against the mid-tier of packable down rather than the 800-plus fill expedition tier, and the trade-off is deliberate. You give up a little warmth-to-weight against the lightest alpine pieces and get a jacket that handles everyday wear, resort days, ski touring, and trail hiking without feeling like technical equipment out of context.
