Columbia Titanium Hiking Whistler Peak Shell Jacket
Most rain shells work by layering a membrane between fabric layers and sealing the seams. The Columbia Titanium Whistler Peak takes a different approach with OutDry Extreme, placing the waterproof membrane on the outside of the jacket rather than sandwiching it between layers. Nothing soaks through because there is no outer fabric to absorb water in the first place. The inside is lined with a soft wicking fabric that sits comfortably against skin without the clammy feel that most hardshell jackets develop after an hour on the trail.
Every seam is fully sealed. The center front zipper and hand pocket zippers are PU coated to block moisture when closed. These are the entry points where most shells eventually let water in, and Columbia has addressed each one specifically. The hood is attached with an adjustable drawcord at the back and a bonded brim that holds its shape without a wire, giving you peripheral vision adjustment without compromising coverage.
Underarm venting with two way zippers handles heat management on sustained climbs. This is a Columbia Titanium product, which means it is built for high output activity in serious conditions, not for standing around in light drizzle. Abrasion resistant overlays on the shoulders and hips protect the jacket where pack straps create friction and wear over time. Adjustable cuffs and a drawcord adjustable hem seal out drafts and wind. A extended hem adds coverage at the back where rain tends to find its way in when you bend forward or sit down. Reflective details add visibility in low light.
Part of Columbia's top tier Titanium line, built with their best fit, features, and technology for the worst conditions you are likely to encounter on a trail.
