The carry on backpack category has been optimized in every direction except one. You can find ultralight builds, clamshell openings, laptop compartments, and compression straps on dozens of bags. What nobody solved was the fundamental physics problem: the bag is only as big as the bag. Black Voyage's Zephyr Pro, a Red Dot Design Award winner, changes the math with a patented vacuum compression system that lets a 35 liter backpack pack like a 60 liter one.
The Vortex system uses airtight thermoplastic welded compression chambers with one way valves. Pair them with the included 60kPa diaphragm pump, the smallest and most powerful travel vacuum pump currently available, and clothing volume collapses by up to 57 percent. Two weeks of clothes in a bag that fits under an airline seat as a personal item. The zip expansion takes the main compartment from 35 to 50 liters, and the Vortex compression pushes effective capacity to a 60 liter equivalent without increasing the external dimensions.
The shell comes in three material options. Military grade Cordura 680D for maximum durability. Sailcloth grade waterproof X-Pac VX21 for weight savings and weather resistance. CloudWeave for a refined, textile forward aesthetic. All three feature a 4 layer waterproof laminate with PET waterproof film rated to 5,000mm hydrostatic resistance. YKK waterproof zippers seal the laptop compartment and front pocket. The Vortex chamber itself provides wet and dry isolation, keeping compressed clothes separated from anything damp.
Organization runs deep. A dedicated laptop compartment, hidden back security pocket, multi function top compartment, side pocket, layered main compartment, and the detachable Vortex airtight chamber. A high rebound EVA back panel handles comfort under load. Dual adjustment shoulder straps, a detachable waist belt, a Nifco magnetic chest buckle, stowable airline compliant straps, and a luggage pass through strap cover every carry scenario.
A built in TSA approved combination lock secures the main compartment. The entire strap system stows away for checked baggage or clean storage.
