VIBA Jane Honda Monkey Motorcycle

The Honda Monkey has always been about making motorcycling fun, but French design studio VIBA has transformed the beloved minibike into something altogether more sophisticated. Called Jane, this extraordinary custom motorcycle blends the playful proportions of the original Monkey with futuristic engineering, beautifully crafted details, and an unmistakably modern aesthetic. The result is a small motorcycle that looks like a piece of industrial design, with some of its most remarkable innovations hiding in plain sight.

Built around the modern Honda Monkey 125, Jane retains the compact dimensions and approachable character that made the original so popular. VIBA reimagined the familiar silhouette with a collection of bespoke components created using advanced metal 3D printing. The standout feature is its sculptural aluminum fuel tank, manufactured using selective laser melting technology. Beyond its intricate exterior, the tank incorporates an internal lattice structure designed to reduce fuel movement during braking and cornering.

The attention to detail extends throughout the motorcycle. A beautifully sculpted front mudguard features an intricate Voronoi-pattern structure surrounding the compact headlight, while custom aluminum brake and clutch levers integrate LED turn signals directly into their hollow construction. Even the instrument bracket and front luggage rack are 3D-printed, allowing VIBA to create complex shapes that would be difficult to achieve using conventional manufacturing. The slim front rack adds a practical touch, offering space for a small shopping bag without disturbing the bike's distinctive proportions.

Despite its advanced construction, Jane retains a distinctly handcrafted character. The saddle is upholstered in anthracite grey linen with a contrasting orange strap, introducing warmth and texture to the otherwise technical design. The minimalist detailing, beautifully integrated lighting, and restrained color palette give the motorcycle a contemporary personality while preserving the friendly spirit of the Honda Monkey. Beneath the custom bodywork, it retains the familiar small-capacity single-cylinder engine and compact running gear of its donor motorcycle.

The transformation is particularly striking when compared with the 2018 Honda Monkey, whose retro styling provided the foundation for VIBA's interpretation. It also shares an experimental spirit with the Vagabund Honda NX650, another custom build that explores the possibilities of 3D-printed motorcycle components. Originally unveiled in 2019 and limited to just 23 examples, the VIBA Jane demonstrates how advanced manufacturing can transform even the simplest motorcycle into an extraordinary design object.
