Michelin Airless Tires

Airless Tires will soon become a real thing and end with the hassle of punctured tires. These have been under development for some time but Michelin seem to have gotten the formula just about right. They’ve named it the UPTIS which stands for Unique Puncture Proof Tire System, these are being developed in collaboration with GM, the American car manufacturer is going to equip a large fleet of their Bolt models with the tires to continue testing and developing. The tires are made from a special kind of rubber mixed with high resistant resin plus fibreglass, these elements combined enhance its resilience and resistance to wear and tear while assuring the needed grip to still handle like a normal component. Another interesting feature is that this tire requires less material to build which is also good news for the industry and the planet. If all goes well, a production version could be on sale by 2024.
