1987 Porche 911 Safari

This awesome 1987 Porsche 911 Safari, named LuftAuto 002, is a masterclass in rally-inspired engineering. Originally a standard 911 Carrera 3.2 in Grand Prix White with Marina Blue interior, this car was transformed at E-Motion Engineering with input from Jeff Zwart, Joey Seely, Rod Emory, and Patrick Long. The result is a fully restored and rally-ready machine that pushes the limits of what a 911 can do off-road.

Under the hood, a modified 3.2-liter flat six from Rothsport’s Jeff Gamroth delivers impressive power thanks to revised camshafts, higher compression pistons, individual throttle bodies, and MoTeC engine management. Power is routed through a G50 transmission with shortened gearing and a limited-slip differential, ensuring precise control on any terrain.

The chassis and suspension are heavily upgraded with additional bracing, boxed-in rear shock towers, a back half roll cage, and custom control arms paired with KW Competition coilovers. This setup provides increased travel and exceptional handling on rough roads.

Inside, the cabin combines comfort and function with Recaro bucket seats, a suede OMP rally wheel, simplified door cards, and a heating system for driver convenience. Outside, Signal Yellow paint meets skid plates, brush guards, a roof rack with a spare tire, 15-inch Braid competition wheels, Pirelli rally tires, and Brembo brakes.

Every detail of the 911 Safari is designed for adventure, blending classic Porsche soul with rally-grade performance. Whether tackling trails or turning heads on the street, LuftAuto 002 delivers an experience as thrilling as its striking appearance.

This fine specimen seen here is being offered by Bring a Trailer and is in pristine condition. Powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the gorgeous car has been repainted dark green over tan leather upholstery. Exterior features include a tan soft top, a louvered hood, and a chrome driver’s...
