1962 Excalibur RS Roadster
The rare 1962 Excalibur RS Roadster is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece designed by the legendary Brooks Stevens. Completed in the 1990s by his close friend Robert Shaw, this roadster blends vintage charm with modern performance. It is based on the 1961 Excalibur Hawk Coupe but features hand-formed aluminum bodywork, Lamborghini-style scissor doors, and a reworked front end inspired by the Ford GT40.
Under the hood, the RS Roadster packs a 5.7L GM V8 crate engine with Edelbrock fuel injection, delivering impressive power through a GM 700R4 automatic transmission. The tubular steel spaceframe chassis, crafted by Chuck Rahn, is paired with control-arm front suspension, a Halibrand quick-change rear axle, and Wilwood disc brakes for a refined driving experience.
Finished in Mercedes-Benz Mystic Blue Metallic with red, white, and blue accents, the RS Roadster reflects Stevens' signature style. Inside, you will find engine-turned aluminum panels, fixed bucket seats, and a removable VIP steering wheel. Power-operated doors, hood, and decklid add a touch of modern convenience.
Set to be auctioned by Mecum on May 16th, this is the first time the Excalibur RS Roadster has been offered for sale, an incredible opportunity to own a piece of automotive history.
