Kamaran Inflatable Kayak
The Kamaran Kayak approaches portability from a different angle. Designed by Argentine industrial engineer Walter Sidler, it uses an inflatable catamaran-style layout instead of a conventional enclosed hull, creating a paddling platform that weighs just 7kg and packs down into a single compact bag.
Two parallel PVC pontoons give the kayak its stability, while the open centre means there is no cockpit to collect water. The design was intentionally shaped to make entry, exit, and paddling easier for less experienced users, without sacrificing the sense of freedom that makes kayaking appealing in the first place.
When assembled, the Kamaran measures 350 x 90 x 30cm. Packed away, it shrinks to 90 × 40 × 20cm, small enough to fit in a car boot, closet, or under a bed. Construction combines PVC fabric, aluminium, and Cordura, keeping the structure light while remaining suitable for regular outdoor use.
