Suspension House

Constructed between two California hills, the Suspension House by Fougeron Architecture spans a creek and overlooks a backyard waterfall. This remodeled home integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, offering an immersive living experience.

A steel frame added beneath the original floors removed creek-bed columns and anchored the home to the rocky hillsides. Transparent materials and strategic sight lines blend the house with the landscape, creating a sense of expansiveness.

The renovation balanced updates with minimal environmental impact. Steel elements bolstered the structure, maintaining the original timber. Visual cues connect indoor and outdoor spaces, with new openings and glazing merging the interior with nature. The three-story home includes two bedrooms with tree canopy views.

The open interior fosters visual connections, creating a spacious feel. A monochromatic palette highlights the natural beauty, and black window frames minimize visual impact. Landscape restoration introduced low-maintenance plants.
