Shoreline House
The stunning Shoreline House brings a fresh perspective to waterfront living on the coast of Victoria, British Columbia. Originally a modest 1960s home, it has been thoughtfully reimagined by Splyce Design into a calm, modern retreat that feels anchored to the landscape rather than imposed on it. Instead of demolishing the original structure, the team chose a low-impact renovation that protects the sensitive coastline while giving the home a completely new life.
The most striking change is the new single level extension that seems to float above rocky terrain. Clad in light cedar and shaped by strict waterfront setbacks, it holds the primary bedroom and ensuite, offering uninterrupted views of the Salish Sea. A dramatic 13 foot roof cantilevers outward, creating a sculptural form that contrasts with the darker, granite toned finishes of the existing house.
Inside, the design opens up to sweeping ocean vistas. Large panes of glass, some frameless, pull natural light deep into the home and frame the shifting conditions of the inlet. The approach is just as intentional, with a colonnade staircase leading visitors toward those views the moment they step inside.

The landscape plays an equal role. Native plants weave through pathways and patios, while mature fir and oak trees soften the architecture. Every element feels tuned to the rhythms of the site, from the recessed foundations that protect the shoreline to the quiet finishes that echo the West Coast palette.
