Redfern Warehouse
Tucked away in Sydney's Redfern, the Redfern Warehouse is a masterclass in adaptive reuse, an industrial shell reimagined into a warm, contemporary family home. Architect Ian Moore preserved the original brick facade and massive timber trusses, using them as the backbone of the renovation. The result? A striking blend of heritage structure and modern design with no trace of nostalgia.
Inside, a sleek upper-level residence floats above the open ground floor, aligned with existing roof trusses to maintain the warehouse's original volume. Glass walls extend above solid partitions, allowing uninterrupted views of the exposed beams and ceiling while enclosing four bedrooms, a home office-turned-equine lab, and guest quarters.
Materials were chosen with intent: no timber, marble, or black finishes, just brushed aluminum, polished concrete, and galvanized steel. A rooftop terrace adds rare green space in the city, while the lower level houses a classic car garage, storage, and workshop.
Bold yet understated, the Redfern Warehouse fuses functionality with refined industrial aesthetics, making it a truly unique urban sanctuary.
