stuff we drool about

Garmin Tactix 8 Cerakote

Garmin just gave its most serious smartwatch a tougher skin, and we think it is one of those upgrades that matters more than specs on a sheet. If you are looking for a watch that feels genuinely built for hard use, the Garmin Tactix 8 Cerakote Edition makes a strong case.

At its core, this is still the Tactix 8 we already respect. You get a large 51mm titanium case, a crisp 1.4 inch AMOLED display, sapphire crystal, and a built in LED flashlight that is genuinely useful once the sun goes down. Battery life remains excellent, with up to 29 days in smartwatch mode, which is something very few competitors can touch.

What changes everything is the Cerakote finish. Borrowed from firearms and industrial applications, this ceramic polymer coating is designed to resist abrasion, corrosion, and chemicals. More importantly, it ages with purpose. Wear marks become character rather than damage, and in our view that fits the Tactix identity perfectly.

Functionally, nothing is lost. Tactical features like Stealth Mode, night vision compatibility, dual coordinate formats, jumpmaster modes, and Applied Ballistics Ultralight are all here. You also keep full performance and outdoor tools, including 40 meter dive capability, multi band GPS with SatIQ, TopoActive maps, advanced training metrics, and round the clock health tracking.

Available in slate gray or olive drab, the Tactix 8 Cerakote Edition feels less like a gadget and more like a long term piece of equipment. It is expensive, yes, but for the right wearer, it earns its place.
