Yeti Skala Hiking Pack
YETI takes a serious step into technical hiking gear with the Skala Hiking Pack, a new backpack line designed to deliver comfort, support and fast access for everything from day hikes to multi day trips. Available in four sizes ranging from 32 to 60 liters, the Skala aims to provide a more tailored fit for different body types while bringing the brand’s rugged reputation into the world of performance backpacking.
One of the standout features is the RipZip opening, a pull to open system that allows quick access to the main compartment without digging through layers of gear. Combined with multiple internal and external pockets, it keeps organization simple while making essentials easy to reach on the move. The pack uses GuardCore nylon, a lightweight but durable material built to handle abrasion and unpredictable weather without adding unnecessary weight.
Comfort and load management are central to the design. An aluminum AlumaLite frame supports heavier loads, while a micro adjustable harness offers up to eight inches of torso adjustment for a more precise fit. Load lifters and contoured straps help distribute weight evenly, and a vented back panel with urethane foam improves airflow to keep things cooler during long climbs.
The Skala also reflects YETI’s broader expansion into carry products, following its acquisition of backpack specialist Mystery Ranch. Many of the design principles seen here, particularly the emphasis on load carriage and fast access, draw from proven backcountry experience.

With technical features aimed at real trail use and a design that prioritizes comfort over gimmicks, the Skala positions YETI as a more serious player in the hiking space. It feels like a natural evolution for a brand known for overbuilt gear, now applying that same philosophy to the demands of long distance carry.
