This Hard Shell Rooftop Tent Is Built for the Wild

This rooftop tent transforms any vehicle into a fully capable camper setup. Mammoth Overland has taken its aircraft-inspired design philosophy to new heights with the SKL, a hard-sided rooftop tent built for travelers who want serious protection without towing a full trailer. At just 300 pounds and crafted entirely from riveted aluminum, this rooftop camper feels more like a mini aircraft cabin than a tent, and it pops open in as little as 30 seconds.

Designed by the same team behind Vashon Aircraft, the SKL uses a monocoque aluminum construction with R5 insulation sandwiched between the inner and outer panels. The result is a four-season shelter that’s far tougher and more weatherproof than traditional fabric rooftop tents. With a deployed height of 64.8 inches and a stowed height of only 18 inches, it stays compact on the road yet spacious at camp.

Inside, the SKL offers enough room for two adults with a king-length sleeping area and a width between a queen and full mattress. Six porthole-style windows bring in natural light, while dual LED strips and an electric bi-directional fan keep things bright and ventilated. A built-in 6Ah battery powers essentials, and the whole system is solar-ready with options to upgrade battery capacity for longer trips.

Classic Mammoth touches round out the experience: clean aerospace design, rugged construction, and smart usability from top to bottom. For overlanders who want the durability of a tiny trailer without the hassle of towing one, the SKL delivers a clever, modern alternative, a compact, hard-walled cabin that rides right on your roof.
