Bertone Runabout
Bertone is bringing a legend back to life with the Runabout 2026, a modern revival of Marcello Gandini's 1969 concept that helped define the wedge-era of car design. The new Runabout stays true to its roots while adding cutting-edge performance, technology, and some long-awaited production reality.
The highlight? Those iconic pop-up headlights, once just a concept, now rise from the hood at the push of a button. Bertone has also reimagined the truncated tail with round taillights, added an industrial-style engine cover, and integrated an aerodynamic S-duct for improved airflow. Signature wedge lines and nautical-inspired details remain, keeping the soul of the original alive.
Buyers will be able to choose between two configurations: the Barchetta, with an open-air design and minimal windshield, or the Targa, which features a full windshield and removable roof. Both versions are powered by a mid-mounted V6 engine producing around 460–500 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, a huge leap from the original’s modest inline-four.
Limited to just 25 units worldwide, the new Runabout will be offered in 10 striking color options, including antique copper, Mediterranean azure, and pearlescent ivory inspired by Italian marble. Production is set to begin in mid-2026.
By blending heritage styling with modern engineering, Bertone’s Runabout isn't just a retro nod, it's a statement piece for collectors who appreciate both design history and pure driving performance.
