1981 Porsche Safari
This stunning 1981 Porsche Safari is the kind of build that makes off-road fans smile and Porsche purists twitch. Originally a 911SC coupe, it was transformed into a rugged trail machine after the current owner acquired it in 2019. The team at Kundensport and TRE Motorsports backdated the bodywork, added a longhood conversion, early-style bumpers, and finished it in a striking Togo Brown with ivory, yellow, and orange stripes.
The upgrades are more than skin-deep. This Safari-ready 911 packs Rennline and Tuthill skid plates, auxiliary Cibie Pallas lighting, a 100-liter steel fuel tank, and durable Bilstein suspension with lowered front spindles. Light Ivory 15-inch ATS cookie-cutter wheels wrapped in Yokohama rubber keep the stance classic but capable.
Inside, the build stays true to its rally spirit, brown microsuede buckets, RS-style panels, orange harnesses, a roll bar, dash-mounted rally timers, and a WEVO shifter with a 917-style knob. Even the gauges were refreshed and backdated, giving the cabin a period-correct feel with modern sharpness.
Power comes from a rebuilt 3.0-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed 915 gearbox and a Wavetrac limited-slip differential, all overhauled in recent years. The chassis was Rhino-lined for durability, and the dual-outlet muffler adds the right soundtrack for desert runs or forest trails.

Already a showstopper, this Safari 911 earned the Petersen Automotive Museum’s Perfection Award in 2025 and even landed the cover of the Mid-Ohio Porsche Club magazine. A true off-road icon built with passion and precision.
