The Macklowe Whiskey
Julie Macklowe entered the spirits world with a clear ambition: create a luxury American whiskey that could stand beside the finest single malts in the world. Launched in 2019, The Macklowe began as a high end American single malt and quickly became known for bold flavor and sculptural packaging that feels more like a design object than a standard bottle.
Working with master blenders Ian MacMillan and Brendan McCarron, Macklowe focuses on small batch releases, meticulous barrel selection, and distinctive finishes. The Silver Edition rye marks a notable evolution. Made from 95 percent rye and 5 percent malted barley, it is aged a minimum of four years in new charred American oak before a secondary finish in ex Macklowe American single malt barrels. The result is a rye with earthy menthol and cracked pepper spice layered against honeyed softness and fresh apple notes, delivering a rich mouthfeel and long, balanced finish.
The portfolio extends beyond rye. The Gold Edition American single malt, drawn from just 10 carefully selected barrels, offers vanilla cream, black cherry, honey, and chili heat with an oily, spicy finish. The Black Edition is an ultra limited single cask matured for thirteen years, showcasing depth, oak integration, and refined sweetness. The Red Label Kentucky Straight Bourbon blends corn, rye, and malted barley into a creamy profile of vanilla, toasted oak, and baking spice.
From liquid to packaging, The Macklowe positions itself as modern American luxury in a traditionally conservative category. It is whiskey designed not only to be tasted, but displayed, collected, and discussed.
